Experimental and Numerical Studies of Fine Quartz Single-Particle Sedimentation Based on Particle Morphology

چکیده
The sedimentation characteristics of quartz particles affect their separation and settling dehydration processes. Particle morphology determines the equilibrium velocity. In this paper, a single particle is characterized by employing experimental CFD-DEM approaches. SEM served to examine measuring 30–500 μm, they exhibited flaky–blocky morphologies with an average long–middle axis ratio 1.6. Consistent SEM-detected morphological features particles, suggested here simpler drag coefficient model, followed verification model data. results show that velocity in non-settling direction had fluctuation ±0.2 mm/s. reached 0.4 mm/s at varying settlement release angles. order which during process was double-cone, single-cone, square when initial greater than Furthermore, diminished as velocities rose. Experimental and modeling investigation of sewage solids sedimentation based on particle size distribution and fractal dimension
Sewage solids are usually characterized by non-specific parameters such as suspended solids. The suspended solids has been shown to be an inadequate index for advanced water treatment processes. In this study, the sewages solids particle size distribution was used to provide more detailed information on sewage characteristic. It is hoped that, by introducing particle size distribution, the mech...
متن کاملAn experimental study of particle sedimentation using ultrasonic speckle velocimetry
Ultrasonic speckle velocimetry (USV) is a non-invasive technique that allows the measurement of fluid velocity in flow and also that of powders under sedimentation. To improve the USV method, we studied the sedimentation of polymethyl methacrylate and silica particles in water. Then, we built a sedimentation cell and characterized the diameter distribution of the particles. Subsequently, we car...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling of Fine Particle Fractal Aggregates in Turbulent Flow
A method for prediction of fine particle transport in a turbulent flow is proposed, the interaction between particles and fluid is studied numerically, and fractal agglomerate of fine particles is analyzed using Taylor-expansion moment method. The paper provides a better understanding of fine particle dynamics in the evolved flows.
متن کاملEFFECT OF ZrO2 PARTICLE SIZE ON MORPHOLOGY and SYNTHESIS OF NANO CaZrO3Via MOLTEN SALT METHOD
Well crystallized pure calcium zirconate (CaZrO3 ) nanopowder was successfully synthesized using the molten-salt method. CaCl2 , Na 2CO3, micro-ZrO 2and nano-ZrO 2 were used as starting materials. On heating, Na2CO3 reacted with CaCl 2to form NaCl and CaCO 3. Nano CaZrO 3 was formed by reacting equimolar amounts of in situformed CaCO 3 (or CaO) and ZrO 2 in molten Na 2CO3-NaCl e...
متن کاملExperimental and Numerical Studies of Droplet and Particle Formation in Electrohydrodynamic Atomization
Electrohydrodynamic Atomization (EHDA) is an effective method to produce micro-droplets/particles in a controllable manner. In this paper, both experimental and numerical approaches are adopted to investigate the mechanism of various EHDA spray modes under different operating conditions. Especially, Computational Fluid Dynamics based numerical simulation is applied to investigate the Taylor con...
